Everything To Know About World Book Day
The World Book Day is an annual event that usually takes place on the 23rd of April across the globe, but every first Thursday of March in the United Kingdom. This is because it clashes with some other festivities in the UK.
The day came about in 1995, at the UNESCO’s General Conference, as a way to pay tribute to books and authors.
I join in today’s celebration, because first of all, I am a avid reader and would celebrate anything attached to it. Secondly, my country, Nigeria, has a strong tie with the UK and lastly, we generally love any kind of celebration in my country.
Why World Book Day?
The day is established and celebrated in order to encourage people to not only read, but also engage with literature and promote publishing. This event holiday is also known as International Day of the Book.
It was also determined that this day would be good for encouraging everyone to read and enjoy the pleasures that go along with it.
Besides that, the day is also an opportunity to give young people book tokens to buy their first book.
2019 World Book Day Theme
Just like every United Nations event, the world book also always have a theme. And this year’s theme is “Share a Story'”.
So, here is my story.
Once upon a time, there was this little girl. Her name is Zoe and well known by her classmates for writing and reading; well and first. Sometime in her junior school year, a classmate of hers commissiomed her to help write a book.
You see, Zoe had never written a story book before and still, didnt even know that was what she was doing. All she knew was that she was going to write a book for Deera. What kept her confidence, was her love for reading, writing, and curiosity.
Shortly after, they began to write. Zoe outlined the book, following instructions from her literature book.
For many weeks, she kept writing. You know the funny thing here? Deerah never had a coherent story to write, in the first place. She only wanted a book to her name! And that was how Zoe did everything.
Nevertheless, it didnt bother her one bit. She sought for Deera’s input only when necessary.
After a month, Zoe finished writing and handed the 40 leaves exercise book to Deera; to be sent for publishing, at least in their dreams.
Few days later, Deera came telling Zoe that the book was no where to be found. They thought that maybe it was taken by a friend and that it will be returned later.
Unfortunately, when the book was later found, it had been torn into pieces.
